I have a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Long Island University, Brooklyn Campus. I taught 2nd and 3rd grade in private schools in Brooklyn,NY. After being home for a few years to raise my family, I became a paraprofessional at my local public elementary school in Connecticut. My program was a pull out for 1st-3rd graders who needed to work on reading and writing skills. Four years later found me at our middle school working as a resource para. I did that for 11 years before moving to Colorado. Currently I am the READ 180 instructional para working with Jason Nurton, our Literacy teacher.
I love seeing the proverbial light bulb switch on for my students. A former Connecticut student of mine recently wrote me a note to say I inspired her to pursue a career in education and she is in her fourth year of teaching. Knowing I can make a difference keeps me inspired.
I love to read--I know SHOCKING for a READ 180 educator!!!!! Taking a ride to the mountains or relaxing at my neighborhood pool are favorite pastimes. My newest interest is my grandson, Timothy, who was born in July,2014. I began keeping a journal as soon as I found out that I was going to become a Nonna.. He lives in Connecticut and I plan on many Facetime and Skype sessions reading him some favorite children's classics. UPDATE: I have a new grandbaby to shower with love. Brooke Lynn Von Hollen arrived January 15th, 2017.I am now working on her first year journal. I look forward to many years of reading and playing with her and making use of FaceTime and SKYPE as she lives in NY.
Jason Nurton and I are located in Room C20. Our classroom is divided into three sections:
The Computer Zone
The Reading Zone and the R book zone
Our students get to move through these zones daily to work on the Hought-Mifflin software, SSR (sustained silent reading) and Rbook instruction'
