Science

Science 6:  The first of three courses that meets the Colorado and Poudre School District Content Standards for Science grades 6 - 8. The major topics covered in the 6th grade are: Tools of science and measurement; Chemistry - properties of matter, phases and changes, and atomic structure;  Ecology – food chains and webs, relationships of living things, biotic and abiotic factors; Earth Science – natural resources, cycles, constructive and destructive forces that change the surface of the earth.

Science 7 (meets every other day): The second of three courses that meets the Colorado State and Poudre School District Content Standards for Science grades 6 - 8. The major topics covered are: mixtures; genetics - human biology from cells to systems; photosynthesis and cellular respiration; plate tectonics and geological processes.  The course is designed to incorporate inquiry based lab activities.

Pre-Advanced Placement Science 7 (meets every other day): Based upon the same curriculum and standards as Science 7, but is designed to emphasize the skills and habits that will be needed to take Advanced Placement Science courses and the Advanced Placement exam in high school. This is an advanced science course that introduces students to basic chemistry, cytology, genetics, and geology.  This course is coordinated with grade 8 Pre-AP Science.

Science 8:  The third of three courses that meets the Colorado State and Poudre School District Content Standards for Science grades 6 - 8. The major topics covered are: ecology; forces and motion; forms and transfer of energy; weather; astronomy; and a general review of ecology and genetics.

Pre-AP Science 8: Based upon the same curriculum and standards as Science 8, but is designed to emphasize the skills and habits of mind that will be needed to take Advanced Placement Science courses and the Advanced Placement exam in high school.
